Maxxon's Ramblings from the OG: Side Pressure
Welcome to Maxxon's Ramblings from the OG. Fact, opinion, some truth, or just BS? You decide for yourself. Today I wanna talk about a little fishing tip that may help you in your fishing, and that's fighting the fish. We've got the rod and the reel at our disposal to use the best way that we can. But my little tip for the day is side pressure
Using the Current
This works, for example, in a river, where you want to use the current of the moving water to your advantage and not let the fish use it to his advantage. If you hook a fish, make sure that you get that fish not only fighting you, but put him off balance by getting him to fight the current. Use the current to your advantage to help tire out the fish, so that you can land him quickly and get him in.

If you get a fish that's moving in one direction, pull down and put your rod to the side to get him off balance. Kind a get him fighting you and the current. Don't let him use the current to his advantage.
Still Water and Ocean Fishing
The same thing holds true for still water fishing, ocean fishing, or lake fishing.
-
If the fish is running and he goes to your right, put pressure on him coming from the left.
-
Put the rod down and pull him on the side; don't give him the leverage of just holding your rod up high.
-
Same thing if he runs to the left: put pressure down on the right.
-
You are pulling him to the side and not giving him his head so that he can gain more leverage
Why Use Side Pressure?
We wanna make sure that we don't fight these fish to exhaustion. This allows him to be revived much easier and prevents him from exhausting himself, so that his survival rate is much higher. We don't want to release a dead fish because he's exhausted and can't even survive and hold in the current.
Side pressure; use it when you need it. Take advantage of the current, and it'll help you land your fish and not exhaust him.
Master the fight with gear built for it. Maxxon rods and reels give you the control, backbone, and power to land fish faster — and release them healthier. Shop Rods & Reels
